Mise-en-scene

For our Multimedia Mise-en-scene project, our main goal was just to make our character and her world, feel real. We wanted everything to match her persona and character from the visuals to the audio. At our station, we wanted classmates to picture what her life would be and looked like. Also, they can get a sense of who she was just by what we had put together.

Our character's name is Angelina, she's a 28 year-old woman who lives in Phildelphia, Pennsylvania. She has short curly hair, dark brown eyes, glasses, and a pale, chubby aspect. She's a housewife who lives with her rich husband and their Chow Chow dog. She loves nature, hanging out with her hippie group of friends, and trying new things. She has a calm, cozy personality to her and also someone who spends most of her time watching movies, decorating her aesthetic room, and walking around the town center at night. Her room has a TV, mini fridge, a valuable shoe rack, and a collection of movie CDs, which all show her love for comfort and little details.

Demonstrating who Angelina is, everyone in our group all took part on working on different factors of the project. To illustrate the character, my friend had traced a design of what she would look like to make her feel realistic, and I made a mood board emphasizing her tones- dark reds, warm tones, black, and olive green. We added pictures of her room, where she lives, flowers, and outfit ideas. For the audio, I picked songs that matched her vibe, like "City of Stars" by Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone,
"Celluloid Heroes" by The Kinks, and "Married Life" by Micheal Giacchino. We also used small objects like popcorn, CDs, and 3D glasses in the station to make the space feel more like her world.

When we created Angelina, we thought about representation and how we could show her without using any stereotypical traits. Representation is how media shows people and communities in a way that shapes how others see them. We wanted to make Angelina feel unique and indifferent from others- she's short, chubby, quiet, and real. The way we put everything together, the layout, the audio, and her setting, we showed what her life would truly look like. I think our group did an amazing job balancing everything out and making her world feel complete.
